The Cost of Discipleship ✝️
📖 Scripture:
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23 (ESV)
❓Reflective Question:
What does denying yourself look like in your daily walk with Christ?
Following Jesus isn’t a part-time commitment—it’s a full-on surrender. It’s easy to admire Him from a distance, but true discipleship means stepping closer to God’s embrace, even when the road gets rough. Denying oneself isn’t about rejecting your identity; it’s about laying down the self-centredness of our lives to embrace a Christ-centred perspective.
The cross of Christ is therefore not a symbol of mere convenience; it is one of sacrifice. This is why acting upon God’s word is of utmost importance. Yet, in losing what we think we can’t live without, we discover life’s deepest joy—found not in possessions, status, or comfort, but in Him.
It’s not glamorous. Some days, it feels like you’re walking barefoot uphill in the windy rain. But know that every step shapes your soul, chiselling away the temporary to reveal the eternal beauty of God’s infinite love. And guess what? You’re never walking alone. Jesus carried His cross first, so He knows the weight—and He will also carry us when ours feels too heavy.
Prayer:
“Lord, help me embrace the cost of following You. Teach me to lay down my will, my pride, my plans—so I can truly live in You. Amen.”
