The Simplicity of Faith
đź“– Scripture:
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 18:3 (ESV)
❓Reflective Question:
Have we made faith more complicated than it needs to be?
Many think that they must be either scholars or deep thinkers to understand God, but the truth is that God delights in the simplest of hearts. The greatest display of faith towards our Lord is not found in endless study or elaborate prayers — it is found in a deeply anchored trust in Christ. A son does not question whether his father will catch him when he leaps; he simply jumps. That is how we must be with the Lord our God.
We tend to waste way too much time worrying about how to pray, what to say, or whether we are doing enough. But, my dear friends, God is not concerned with our immaculate sentence structures and highly articulate words; He is concerned with the condition of our hearts. If we love God, trust Him, and desire to walk with Him, that is enough. Faith is not about striving to be perfect for the world to see — it is about resting in His love so that it becomes the very thing which leads us to a deeper knowledge of Him.
If we seek God in simplicity, we will find that He is not so far from us. He does not make it hard for us to reach Him — He only asks that we come as we are. But please note that he didn’t say “stay as you are”. Let us put aside our efforts to impress Him, and simply love Him with all that we have.
🙏🏽 Prayer:
“Dear Lord, forgive us for over complicating our reliance on You. Teach us to trust You as children trust their father, and to rest in the knowledge that we are loved. May you fill our hearts be in hunger for simplicity rather than worldly extravagance, and may our faith be full of a joy which transcends all understanding. In Jesus name;”
Amen.
