The Joy of Serving
đź“– Scripture:
“Whoever would be great among you must be your servant.” — Matthew 20:26 (ESV)
❓Reflective Question:
Do we see serving others as a burden or a blessing?
The world teaches us that joy comes from being served and for others to look up to us. However, this is nothing further from the truth; for true joy is found in our service to God in all things. Many seek fulfilment in gaining riches, attaining power, or gaining status. Yet, deep down, their souls remain in a state of spiritual and mental restlessness. But when we humble ourselves and give freely to others, we discover a deep and lasting joy that no earthly treasure can provide.
In your own life, make an effort to find the little things that can highlight the great delight that comes in our simple service. You may have gone out of your way to scrub floors and wash dishes; but it was not for men, but for God. And in these simple, seemingly mundane tasks, we can experience His presence more deeply than in any grand moment of life. Service to God is not about the work itself — it is always about the posture of the heart that makes the child of God naturally display His love for all to see.
When we serve with a selfless joy that is not in expectation of reward, we reflect the kindness and empathy of Christ, who knelt down to wash the feet of the very people that devoted their lives to serve Him. Avail your hearts and mind to become His hands and feet in the world, bringing light into the lives of others.
🙏🏽 Prayer:
“Lord, teach us the joy of serving. Let us not seek recognition or reward, but simply the pleasure of doing Your will. May every act of love draw us closer to You and bring light to those around us. In Jesus’ name”
Amen.
