The Human Condition

đź“– Scripture:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (ESV)

❓Reflective Question:

How do you see your own need for grace in the light of God’s holiness and your sinfulness?

Due to the state of the world we live in, the human condition is steered by sin. We are born in an environment of rebellion, estranged from God, and we are unable to save ourselves. This is the starting point of every human story: we are fallen creatures, incapable of fulfilling the mandate of God upon our lives. Now, the weight of this truth should humble us, for it exposes our deepest urge — the need for a redemption of the soul. We cannot earn or attain this by our own merit or efforts.

nonetheless, although the human condition is tragic, it is not hopeless. As a matter of fact, there is a greater hope for humanity found in Christ. Scripture declares that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s mercy, but it also declares that Christ came to redeem us from this very condition of destitution. The good news of the Gospel is that, though we are found guilty of our sins, we are not abandoned by our Creator. God, in His immeasurable mercy, has provided a way of salvation through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. The human condition is dire, but God’s grace is more than abundant to meet our needs.

We must never forget the depth of our sin, but we must also never forget the depth of God’s unconditional love. The recognition of our sinfulness is not to drive us to a place of despair and fear, but to bring us to the feet of Jesus, who is the only One who can heal and restore us. In Jesus we will find forgiveness, hope, transformation and a whole new life.

🙏🏽 Prayer:

“Dear Lord, I confess that I often forget the depth of my sin and my need for Your grace. Help me to see myself rightly in light of Your holiness. Thank You for sending Christ to redeem me. May I never take Your grace for granted, but live in grateful response to the salvation You have given. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray.”

Amen
