Redefining Success
đź“– Scripture:
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” — Mark 8:36 (ESV)
❓Reflective Question:
Are you defining success by God’s standards or the world’s?
Success is one of the greatest idols of our time. Without realising it, we worship our accomplishments, job titles and earthly achievements. This is because the world defines success by wealth, influence, and achievement. It tells us that our worth is measured by what we accomplish. But our Lord Jesus turns that definition upside down through the message He brings.
True success is not about gaining more in this life, but it is centered on surrendering more of ourselves and our desires to God. It’s not about being known by people but about being known by God. The most successful life is never the one with the most significant platform or influential reach, but the one who has lived in faithful obedience to Christ.
If we spend our days chasing what the world offers, we may gain everything we ever wanted; only to find it was never enough to give us an authentic peace within our souls that only Jesus can bring. However, when we seek first the kingdom of God, we discover that the life we were made for is not defined by status but by complete surrender to the will of God.
Prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to see success as You do, not in the way the world portrays it. Humble my heart and keep me from chasing things that will never satisfy my soul. Teach me to value faithfulness over fame, obedience over ambition, and Your kingdom over my own fleshly desires. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord.”
Amen.
