The Holiness of God

đź“– Scripture:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” — Isaiah 6:3 (NIV)

❓Reflective Question:

Do I approach God with the reverence and awe that His holiness demands?

When Isaiah was given a vision of the Lord, he did not see a God who could be approached casually. That is because holiness is more that one of God’s attributes; it is the essence of who He is. He saw a God so pure, so majestic, that even the angels covered their faces and cried out, “Holy, holy, holy.” In that moment, the prophet Isaiah realised the weight of his own sinfulness, and fell to his knees in reverent fear. That is how we must be when we address our Almighty Father.

We live in a time when God’s holiness is often diminished in our own ways of thinking. We sing of His love, we speak of His kindness, but how often do we sincerely tremble before His divine holiness? Have we forgotten that the God who welcomes us as children is also the same God whose presence caused Moses to remove his sandals, whose voice shook Mount Sinai, and whose very presence overwhelmed the temple with glory?

Yet, in His holiness, the Lord calls us to be holy as well. This is not a call towards complete moral perfection but one of complete surrender — to let God’s refining fire purify our hearts, burning away every trace of sin. The world may mock the idea of holiness, but without it, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). If we have lost our sense of awe before Him, perhaps it is time to return reverence, to prostrate ourselves before our Maker, and to once again behold the majesty of His infinite holiness.

🙏🏽 Prayer:

“Holy God, forgive me for approaching You with a casual heart. Restore in me a zeal that increases my holy reverence for Your presence. I pray that my life will be a reflection of Your holiness, not by my own efforts but by the transforming power of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name.”

Amen.
