The Goodness of God

📖 Scripture:

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” — Psalm 34:8 (ESV)

❓Reflective Question:

Do you trust in the goodness of God even when circumstances suggest otherwise?

It is easy to affirm God’s goodness when life is going well. But when trials come, doubts creep in. “If God is good,” we ask, “why is this happening?” The psalmist, however, does not merely tell us to believe that God is good; he invites us to taste and see.

The goodness of God should not be boiled down to a mere theological concept to be debated amongst ‘the wise’ — it is a reality to be experienced for all. It’s such a simple concept that people overthink it. To explain, God’s goodness is not dependent on our circumstances but is woven into His very nature. He does not cease to be good when we face hardships; rather, it is in those moments that we often see His goodness most clearly.

To take refuge in Him is to rest in the assurance that His ways are higher than ours, His love is deeper than we can comprehend, and His plans are always for our ultimate good. Even when we cannot see the full picture, we can trust the heart of the One who holds it all together. This is what it means to serve a God that we can depend on (1 Cor. 1:9).

🙏🏽 Prayer:

“Gracious Father, help me to trust in Your goodness at all times. When life is hard and my heart is weary, remind me that You are still faithful, still sovereign, still good. May I find my refuge in You and experience the deep joy of resting in Your perfect love. In Jesus’ name;”

Amen.
