Chosen by God

Scripture:
"Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him." — Ephesians 1:4 (ESV)

Reflective Question:
How does understanding God’s sovereign choice in your life deepen your worship and sense of security?

The doctrine of election is one of the most humbling and awe-inspiring truths in Scripture. It teaches us that before the foundation of the world, God set His love upon us; not because of any perfectly good nature within us, but solely because He is willing to show us His endless grace and mercy. This truth should humble us, for it reminds us that our salvation is not of our own doing, but the result of God’s sovereign power over all things.

To be chosen by God is not a privilege we have earned but it’s a gift we could never deserve. It means to accept the invitation to be united with God, but not to use it as an excuse to act as if you’re better than everyone else. This concept shouldn’t encourage complacency or pride, but should instead deepen our understanding of God’s glory. It calls us to a life of gratitude and worship, knowing that we are saved according to His purpose and plan, not our merit.

The security we find in God’s election is unshakable. If God has chosen us, then no one can separate us from His love. Our salvation is not contingent upon our performance or perseverance, but on the unchanging will of God. This should give us great peace, for our standing before God is rooted in His eternal choice, not in our fickle efforts.

Prayer:
“Lord, I stand in awe of Your sovereign choice to set Your love upon me. Help me to rest in the security of knowing that my salvation is based on Your will and not my own. May this truth deepen my worship and gratitude, and may it lead me to a life of holiness and obedience.”

Amen.
