Tuning into God's Frequency

Many times, in my life I’ve heard from God. I’m not talking necessarily in a similar way that God called Samuel (1 Samuel 3:10) or the way that God communicated with Elijah (1 Kings 19:11-13), but more like a warming and comforting voice speaking to the soul that guides me and instructed me on what to do next in the steps I was taking. Although that voice was more strong, more profound and intrinsic at other times and situations, I felt like it was the voice of God speaking to me directly.

However, as I have continued my walk with the Lord, there definitely have been times that I didn’t feel like God heard me when I spoke to Him. When I was going through some serious struggles in life and I was being drowned in anxiety and worries, I prayed. though, I was wondering If I was just having a one-way conversation, or if I was just speaking to someone that wasn’t there; because God wasn’t talking back to me. the more my frustration was building up, the more I felt that although God was hearing my prayers as it says in Jeremiah 29:12-13, he wasn’t sending any responses. It wasn’t that I was doubting God; I was doubting if He was hearing my cries because no matter how much I tried to speak to Him, I wasn’t getting a reply.

But there was one thing I wasn’t putting into consideration. What if it was that I wasn’t ‘tuned in’ to God’s frequency? What if I was having ‘no signal’ and I was being signal jammed. What if I wasn’t paying attention to God in the first place? What if God was replying ALL the time, but I couldn’t hear Him because I’m was giving more attention to what the issues were instead of letting God help we with sorting out my worries and issues in the first place.

What I Learnt.

When we look at scripture, there are numerous occasions where God tells us to hand over our anxieties and worries unto His care. For example, Psalm 34:4 says, ‘I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.’ (ESV). Here, it teaches us that God delivers us from our fears and anxieties, but the thing is, how can God speak to us and guide us if we are focusing more on our problems than Him?

1 Peter 5:6-8 says ‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.’

1 Peter 5:6-8

What I love about this verse is that it reminds us that the enemy purposely tries to block us from hearing God’s voice by letting us dwell on our anxieties and worries, but God doesn’t want us to do that. He wants us to stop worrying about how He will solve our problems but wants us to let Him sort it out for us.

The Lord speaks to us all the time, but sometimes, we can’t hear his voice because we are focusing on the noise our worries and troubles are making in our lives. Once we learn to put our focus on what the word of God says and learn to not try to solve our problems with our own ideas, we will all realise that the answer we have been praying to God for has already been answered; we just need to learn how to tune in to focus on God, and not our worries.
